Demar Derozan Traded

Bulls Trade DeRozan to Kings for Sign-and-Trade

DeRozan Signs Three-Year, $74 Million Deal with Sacramento

Move Gives Bulls Cap Flexibility, Questions Surround Future of Core Players

The Chicago Bulls have traded four-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan to the Sacramento Kings in a three-year, $74 million sign-and-trade agreement. The move gives the Bulls much-needed cap flexibility and raises questions about the future of Zach LaVine, Nikola Vučević, and Lonzo Ball. DeRozan, 32, averaged 21.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.9 assists last season for the Bulls. He was a key part of Chicago's resurgence after years of mediocrity, helping the team reach the playoffs for the first time since 2017. However, the Bulls' front office decided to part ways with DeRozan in order to create cap space. With DeRozan and Alex Caruso now gone, the Bulls have approximately $22 million in available cap space. This move could have significant implications for the Bulls' future. LaVine, Vučević, and Ball are all entering the final year of their contracts, and the Bulls will have to make decisions on their future. Ball and Vučević are both eligible for extensions this summer, while LaVine is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023. The Bulls' front office will have to weigh the cost of re-signing these players against the possibility of rebuilding around younger players. The trade for DeRozan gives the Bulls the flexibility to pursue either option.
